Darren Lethem

Where did you grow up?

Hull boy. Grew up on Hessle Road and still live in this great city today.

What's your single worst fear?

I am absolutely petrified of fairground rides. Roller coasters, spinny things that throw you upside down.
Contraptions that spin you around at 100 miles an hour. Not for me. If you ever need somebody to go to Hull Fair with who will hold the coats....i’m your man.

What's the best gig you've ever been to?

Probably the first one I ever went to which was U2 in Edinburgh in 1987 but I also remember seeing
Oasis live at the Hull Arena. Sam Heywood and I were doing some radio bits backstage as
Noel Gallagher came on to sound check ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’. Sam and I stood there in an
almost empty Arena with our jaws dropping.

What's the worst thing about you?

I am not the world’s most patient guy. If I book a holiday for August in January then I have the
itinerary planned out within 24 hours. I am a bit OCD in doing things in advance. I like to think it is
because I am a born organiser but it’s more likely I am a fussy knickers.

What's your favourite movie?

12 Angry Men which is an old black and white classic but I also adore Pulp Fiction and the Naked Gun series

Describe how you looked in 1990....

Crikey. Well I think I still had hair, although it was possibly showing signs of heading north for the winter.
I would have been in wacky jumpers and shell suit bottoms. I probably thought I was a right bobby dazzler too.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

New York. I have been fortunate enough to go a few times and it is amazing. As for in the UK,
I love the East Coast. Give me a day out in Scarborough, Bridlington, Withernsea, Filey or Hornsea and
you will see a very happy Darren.....especially if fish and chips and ice cream are involved.

What are your must listen to artists?

I have always liked U2 ever since their early days and I do like a bit of REM too.
Beautiful South, Oasis, Kate Bush, Kasabian and The Beatles all feature on the Lethem iPod

What food would you eat for a last supper?

Has to be 3 courses ( obviously ). Baked camembert for starter, fish and chips for
main and apple strudel with ice cream for pudding. Washed down by a pint of Stella or 4!

What tv shows would you sit through the adverts to watch live?

Well I love classic comedy so although I have seen every Only Fools and Horses and Porridge
about 2000 times I still watch them intently. A few years ago I got into The Sopranos
and that was utterly compelling. Plus anything with Michael Palin in. The man is my hero.
