Work starts today on a new cycle path along the A1035 in Hornsea.
The stretch of footpath, between Seaton Road and Cheyne Walk and Bewholme Lane, is being widened.
The work, which takes four weeks to complete, will be carried out between 9am and 5pm with two-way traffic lights in operation, during weekdays
A temporary pathway for pedestrians will be put in place during the scheme.
Some minor drainage works will also take place at the same time to tackle a problem with standing water.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding Council, says: "We want to thanks motorists and pedestrians in advance for their patience while we work on this scheme.
"When it’s complete the new shared cycleway and footpath will be a big benefit to cyclists using this route and will improve road safety."
