The first of thousands of trees planted in Hull

Stephen Robinson of HeyWoods

The first of 8,500 native trees are being planted in Hull as part of the Northern Forest - a project which will see 50 million trees planted from the city to Liverpool.

Today volunteers were at the Ennerdale Cycle Circuit in north Hull creating an urban woodland.

Councillor Anita Harrison is Hull City Council's portfolio holder for streetscene. She says: "The new woodland being created at Ennerdale Cycle Circuit is the latest in a number of projects in Hull this year.

"It will help us to contribute to the new Northern Forest and the scale of the project makes it one of the largest tree planting initiatives in the city in recent memory."
