Councillor Terry Geraghty would like to see the venue built in Bond Street in Hull city centre.
The latest plans for a new 5,000 seat ice arena in Hull have been revealed.
Councillor Terry Geraghty says it could cost up to £7 million pounds and wants to see it built down Bond Street, replacing the Edwin Davis department store.
If approved, the new facility would replace the current ice arena.
He says: "The existing one has been there for 30 years now, we're having problems on the main side of it with the ice and quite frankly it's at the end of its tether now.
"It's been a very good servant and now we're looking at maybe building a new one.
"Whatever happens we're going to have to do something with the existing ice arena. If we don't, something's going to happen.
"It's well used at the moment. If we have to close it it would be an absolute disaster."
