Loss of historic pub in Skirlaugh will be devastating, say parish council.
A parish councillor says plans to demolish an historic village pub in Skirlaugh would have a devastating impact.
A planning application has been submitted, to bring down the Sun Inn, and build five homes.
More than 60 residents turned out to a public meeting, where 96 per cent said they were against the plans.
Ed Phelan is the chairman of Skirlaugh Parish Council: "Naturally local people understandably don't want to lose this structure, which is an historic icon - one of the very few left in the village now - which has been with us for many generations. That's nearly two centuries now."
The architects involved with the project say the old pub needs to go, and new residents would bring fresh trade.
