Hessle flood defence plans to go before council planners today

The £11 million scheme is designed to protect more than 4,000 homes.

Multi-million pound flood defences at Hessle Foreshore will be considered by planners today.

The £11 million scheme is designed to protect more than 4,000 homes.

It'll include a glass-panelled concrete wall along Cliff Road, and some residents have expressed concern about the impact of this.

Local councillor Phil Davison says: "Lots of people visit the Foreshore here in Hessle, and they like to sit in their cars and look at the river and the bridge, this might just slightly dull that image if you like.

He adds: "But put that against the fact that 4,000 properties could be protected from future tidal surge."
