East Yorkshire project hoping to tackle period poverty

The Red Box project hands out sanitary equipment to schools.

A project in East Yorkshire set-up to tackle period poverty, says it's making a massive difference.

Red Box issues boxes with sanitary products to schools across the region, in places such as Hornsea, Hull and Beverley.

A report by children's charity Plan International UK in 2017, found one in ten young women aged between 14 and 21, cannot afford sanitary products.

Pippa Hutchinson-Chan is the Beverley Coordinator of Red Box, she says she was shocked, that in a first world country this was an issue.

She adds that it's expensive, because it's an issue that needs addressing every month.
