JAMES RULE on SportsCall

James will be co-hosting with Matthew Rudd every other week through the summer (his Hull KR compatriot Paul Lakin will do the alternate weeks) and talking to the leading personalities at Hull FC, including the first team squad.

However, in his first appearance this summer, he spoke to Matthew about Super League, his recent fact-finding mission to Australia, Millennium Magic, development of the KC Stadium, the injury list and franchising.

James will be back with Matthew on Tuesday May 20th - listen to KCFM for details of his special guest.

The Play Offs: WATFORD v HULL CITY

The Tigers are after a Premier League place, and to get it they have to beat Watford over two legs, starting this Sunday lunchtime at Vicarage Road.

City lost there 1-0 back in October but unfurled a new talent called Fraizer Campbell that day, who afterwards went on to dominate the Tigers' season.

The second leg at the KC Stadium - where City thumped Watford 3-0 in March - is on Wednesday night. The winners on aggregate will go to Wembley to face either Crystal Palace or Bristol City for a place in the Premier League.

Alex Burgess leads your commentary team - coverage begins on Sunday morning and kick off is at midday!

Huddersfield Giants are the visitors to Craven Park this Sunday in a 1.15pm kick off; we'll bring you updates from there as Hull City's game concludes, then the remainder of the game in full as Justin Morgan's men face tricky Super League opposition.

Then it's off to the Stobart Stadium Halton, home of National League side Widnes Vikings, whom Hull FC must beat to progress. Full match commentary from 3.

XIII GUEST ON CROWN JULES' ROCK SHOW

XIII (pronounced thirteen) are a heavy/thrash metal band hailing from our very own great city of Hull.

The band’s influences include music from the 80s - including Metallica and Megadeth - but also include the likes of Thin Lizzy and Johnny Cash.

Machine Head, Kreator, Trivium and Annihilator are more recent names helping to shape XIII’s sound.

In recent months, a re-shuffle of XIII's band members was needed, as the original guitarist quit the band due to musical differences.

The search was on to find a replacement and after a handful of people applied, Mark Storr was finally chosen. Mark brings amazing guitar skills, similar musical influences and personality, to the rest of the band.

XIII hope you will all join them in giving Mark a huge XIII welcome and show your support for what is now - with the help of Mark and his talents - a brute force to be reckoned with.

The band are due to play at ‘Sharkeys’ on the 30th April, Ringside on the 14th May - and again on the 4 June (the Ringside dates in the Battle of the Bands). All these dates are in Hull.

Palmer played for the Tigers for three years in the 1980s under Brian Horton and was a popular full back with strength in defence and a willingness to join the attack.

As one of the trio of the club's first black players, he was also a man who brought down barriers and broke new ground.

And later with Notts County, he won two play-off campaigns - so he's in a good position to advise the current Hull City side!

Al Dupres (left) and Iain Porter, of the Odeon Cinema, meet up live on Al's show each Wednesday on the understanding that they chat about the new movie releases.

Usually they achieve this!

It's one of the genuine highlights of KCFM as our film buff Al (this doesn't mean he attends the Odeon naked, by the way) and cinema man Iain go off on the sort of tangents even the best trigonometrist would struggle to measure.

There's also .... Fanfare Idol!

AL DUPRÉS CHATS WITH STEVE WINTERBURN

At 6.27pm precisely, Al Duprés had special guests Steve Winterburn and Peter 'Flash' Flanagan's daughter Elaine in conversation with KCFM 99.8's David Doyle Davidson on his show.

Steve came in to discuss the propsed statue of 'Flash' - a Hull Kingston Rovers playing legend - that he is working on.

Peter, affectionately nicknamed 'Flash' from his Rovers days was signed by David Doyle Davidson for Hull FC while he was coach, after a distinguished career with the Robins.

Nova-Caine visited our very own Crown Jules on the KCFM 99.8 Rock Show and they come as a four piece grunge rock band from Hull.

Nova Caine’s musical influences are Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Beatles, The Pixies, Black Sabbath, Cream, Primus, Led Zepplin, Refused, Jimi Hendrix, Faith No More, Stone temple pilots, Soundgarden, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Mudhoney, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Rush.

You can catch Nova Caine playing ‘The Adelphi’ on the 29th April and ‘The Ringside’ on the 8th and 14th May. A final local date in the Hull area will be at The Lamp on the 9th June.

Arguably two of Great Britain's most iconic presenters met face to face in the KCFM 99.8 studios in Hull last Friday.

Yes, it really was a true clash of the titans as Paul Burnett 'gatecrashed' Tony Blackburn's Friday morning show with a surprise appearance.

Abbott, now assistant manager at Carlisle United, was an important and experienced figure at Boothferry Park in Terry Dolan's era of the early 1990s as the club went through various hardships.

His release in 1996 came as a big shock to both himself and the Hull City fans.

It’s happening on Tuesday 8th April from 2 - 5pm at the marquee on the Woodcock Street Site located on the corner of Springburn Street and Eastbourne Street.

Diary of events

2.00pm – Guests arrive.

2.15pm – A photo call with the media. Including local school children from ChilternPrimary School burying a time capsule! Also, speeches from the following organisations – Gateway, Keepmoat/Haslam Homes and Places for People.

2.30pm – Music session.

3.30pm – Event opens to the public. KCFM’s Tim Finlay will be presenting the afternoon including, party games, balloons, prizes and a buffet.

Aim of the Day

The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the new development for the Woodcock Street area and to show the range of new housing that will be on offer. Displays will be available for public viewing on the proposed plans.

Described by Audioscribbler as “A band who look set to take on the world”

AfterGlow are a five piece ‘Alternative Rock’ outfit from Hull. In 2007 AfterGlow released their debut EP ‘A night in the life of’ on iTunes and CD to critical acclaim.

The launch of ‘A night in the life of’ saw them gain nationwide air play and a national tour, as well as a sold out EP launch party at the Hull Adelphi!

The band have been together just two years and in that time have played gigs non stop across Britain including support slots for the likes of Dogs and The Hedrons, as well as headlining dates for HMV and Kerrang!

Having taken in venues like London Waterrats, Manchester Night and Day, Leeds Uni and The Hull City Hall last year, AfterGlow are currently touring up and down the country with several festival dates lined up for the summer.

The band are also set to release their debut Single in Spring ‘08 through their DIY label Empire Records! You can catch them live in Hull on the 20th April at Nicks and on the 28th April at Sesh @ Linnet & Lark

Sworn Against visited the KCFM 99.8 studios to play a set for Crown Jules on our Rock Show. The band played tracks from their debut album ‘And So It Begins’

And KCFM 99.8 are proud to announce we are the very first station to have had the pleasure of hosting Sworn Against in session!

The Hull based band have had their debut album reviewed in the famous KERRANG! Rock magazine and received a ‘KKK’ rating which in the words of KCFM’s producer Phil is “Brill!”

After five years of solid graft, their brutal combination of grooving melodic thrash metal has seen them gain a place in the roster of successful up & coming British record label Rising Records.

The band spent the latter half of 2007 writing new material, before six weeks at Rising studios saw the birth of their debut album ’And So It Begins’.

The album will be released on March 24th 2008, which also signals a hefty stint of touring, as the band begins to look forward and put all their efforts into making an impact on the global metal scene.

Fine 69 formed in March/April of 2007, when Kenny, Kev, Kieran and Kalv got bored of the watered-down indie scene throughout England, and realised that the UK needs some dirty rock n roll shoved down its throat!

Playing their first gig on Thursday 24th May at The New Adelphi Club, De Grey St, alongside 'The Action' and 'Mary Jane', Fine 69 have come on in leaps and bounds in a mission to show Britain the next generation of rock music!

On 12th October, the 'Love, Lust, & Affection EP' was released, again at The Adelphi Club, now a favourite venue amongst both the band and it's fans. Not willing to slow down the pace, however, on 29th November Fine 69 came 1st in Stage Pass Promotions - Hull Finals of BOTB, beating off some tough competition and are currently waiting for the National Finals to be held in Manchester.

James Clark was out and about with his camera this Sunday, reporting into Rob Langley's show on a selected kids' match and handing out the Stoneacre man of the match award!

This weekend it was Willerby Wanderers (white) taking on Gilberdyke (blue) with the match ending in a 0-4 win for Gilberdyke. Scoring for Gilberdyke were Connor Clayton (2), Bradley Hart and Sam Barnes.

The weather was cold but the game was entertaining and KCFM's James Clark awarded Chris Wray the 'Stoneacre Man of the Match' award after the game!

COLCHESTER UNITED v HULL CITY

This game was controversially rained off in January when many City fans had already arrived in Essex, and incurred the wrath of both Paul Duffen and Phil Brown, so it's a primed set of City players who will take to the field tonight!

It's a return to an old home for Wayne Brown and Richard Garcia, while a number of City players will want to make up for the shocking 5-1 defeat suffered last season as the hunt for promotion to the Premier League hots up!

Tom Kay:

Tom started playing guitar when he was just 6 years old. He was influenced by his Dad to pick up the guitar. Tom had always had a guitar from the age of 3 and started getting taught the basics by his Father.

A year later he played at a talent competition at his primary school and came second. Then, Tom also came second again a year later.

Tom is signed to the promo label BlackBull Records who have made his music reasonably popular in Australia . And hopefully we’ll be hearing more of Tom Kay in the near future, as he is currently working on a second album.

An exciting game finished level at Thorngumbald Playing Fields, with Tom Bielby scoring a hat-trick for the home side.

Also on target for Thorngumbald were Josh Damby and Dan Crabb, while Mark Coates and Grant Rouse each got a brace for Vicky Dock. Little Billy got their fifth.

Mark Coates' all-round display, as well as his two goals, was rewarded with the man of the match award.

It's one of the genuine highlights of KCFM as our film buff Al (this doesn't mean he attends the Odeon naked, by the way) and cinema man Iain go off on the sort of tangents even the best trigonometrist would struggle to measure.

You can hear them at about 6.25 each Wednesday evening, and bits of it are always repeated on Sunday breakfast with Matthew Rudd as part of the best of KCFM's week.

Kevin Boyd, who was a 400m and 1500m finalist at the 1988 Games in Seoul, talked to Matthew Rudd about his long career in the sport and his current involvement with the national team as medical officer.

Kevin began as a child swimmer at Hull Olympic Swimming Training Club in 1972 and emerged as one of Hull's most heralded sporting stars of all time, holding seven Commonwealth, 17 British and 21 English records in the pool.

Dave is an International Director of Lions Club International, who are holding a District Convention at the Village Hotel in Hull, where he is guest of honour.

On February 1st, Dave will be talking to Clare about the work of the Lions Club, which globally helps communities in times of crisis, disaster or general difficulty.

CHRIS SIMPKIN on SportsCall

Chris spent nine years in the City first team after making his debut at the age of 18 and became one of the more unheralded but still vital cogs in the team managed by Cliff Britton and showcased by the Chillo and Waggy partnership.

He won a Third Division title medal in 1966 and scored against Chelsea in a famous FA Cup quarter final replay the same season. In total he made more than 300 appearances prior to Terry Neill's decision to sell him to Blackpool in 1971.

Hutton has just completed a 50 year association with the Robins having begun as a coach and now the proud club president.

He had many stories to tell, and joined Matthew on SportsCall to chat about his long love of Hull Kingston Rovers, whom he joined as coach in 1957, subsequently going on to become a general manager, director, chairman and president.

He also played across the city for Hull FC between 1951 and 1957, kicking a famous penalty to clinch the 1956 Championship!

Whittle was the hugely influential captain and centre back recruited by Warren Joyce midway through what turned out to be City's Great Escape season, completing a formidable, none-shall-pass defence which helped the Tigers stay in the League.

He became a modern-day City hero as a result, but later fell out of favour upon Peter Taylor's arrival at the KC and has since continued to ply his trade with Grimsby Town.

He has already appeared numerous times on KCFM as a summariser on Hull City Live! and has added to his association with KCFM by joining Matthew Rudd in the studio to look back on his eventful years at Boothferry Park and the KC.

Jacobs had five seasons at Boothferry Park in the late 80s and early 90s, playing in the last few weeks of Brian Horton's spell in charge prior to becoming City's most admired and consistent performer in a turbulent era.

He was 20 years old when he played against Liverpool in the 1989 FA Cup fifth round and picked up a number of Player of the Season awards before a knee injury controversially and suddenly ended his career with the Tigers.

Wayne was recently voted City's finest left back of the modern era by veteran Tigers fans on KCFM's Fans Panel.

Rosie Madison was in the town centre with guest appearances from the Mayor of Driffield, Santa Claus and a local school choir. There were also fairground rides and a fancy dress competition and lots, lots more, so have a look through the piccies!

We've had luxury hampers courtesy of the Prospect Centre in Hull to give away each Friday since November 23rd - but this Friday, December 14th, will be our final chance for you to nominate someone!

Each week a different store in the Prospect Centre will donate the hamper.

RICHARD SKINNER joins KCFM!

Richard presented the UK Top 40 on Radio 1 in the mid-1980s and was chosen to do the voiceover at Wembley in 1985 to launch Live Aid, prior to anchoring much of the TV and radio coverage afterwards.

He later helped launch Virgin Radio and has worked for some of radio's biggest stations since.

Richard is co-presenting our UK Top 20 Rewind with Shaun Tilley on Sunday - each will present a classic Top 20 countdown from a year gone by.

They're on from 5pm!

MICHAEL TURNER on Chairman's Night SportsCall

Turner has been outstanding for City this season, having scooped many people's votes for Player of the Season last year, as well as the Goal of the Season prize for his memorable volley at Luton.

Al Dupres (left) and Iain Porter, of the Odeon Cinema, meet up live on Al's show each Wednesday on the understanding that they chat about the new movie releases.

Usually they achieve this!

It's one of the genuine highlights of KCFM as our film buff Al (this doesn't mean he attends the Odeon naked, by the way) and cinema man Iain go off on the sort of tangents even the best trigonometrist would struggle to measure.

You can hear them at about 3.25 each Wednesday afternoon, and it is always repeated on Sunday breakfast with Matthew Rudd as part of the best of KCFM's week.

DEAN WINDASS on Chairman's Night SportsCall

Windass, who is currently promoting his autobiography, was the guest of Paul Duffen as the Hull City chairman continues to co-host SportsCall each Thursday with Matthew Rudd.

Windass is the modern-day legend of City, having played for five eventful and productive seasons at Boothferry Park during more troublesome times for the club, before returning in a blaze of glory at the age of 38 to score the goals which saved the Tigers from relegation.

KEN HOUGHTON on SportsCall

Houghton was an outstanding member of the City side of the late 60s and early 70s which came closer than any other Tigers team to achieving top-flight football.

He played as a foil to Chilton and Wagstaff in that famous front five under Cliff Britton and Terry Neill, later going on to raise some outstanding young players such as Garreth Roberts and Brian Marwood as youth team coach, prior to a spell as club manager.

Houghton joined Matthew Rudd to reminisce about his days at Boothferry Park. Our photo shows the two chaps together in the KCFM studio.

LEE JACKSON on SportsCall

Jackson was in the Hull side which won the 1991 Premiership and the England squad which reached the 1995 World Cup final.

After such a long and distinguished career, he joined Matthew Rudd this coming Wednesday to look back on his time at the Boulevard.
