Hull City AFC Open Day

Hull City AFC are holding there Open Day for all supporters and their families at the KC Stadium from 10.30am – 3pm and KCFM will be there playing all the tunes at the West Stand Reception. You will have an opportunity to win a signed home shirt!!!

There is something for everyone including the unveiling of the new home and away shirt, chances to meet and grab autographs from players – you can even watch them train on the pitch.

The day will include some of the region’s best loved mascots competing in fun challenges. There’s also a chance to see some of the ex-players in action again in a special Senior City-zens match. Later on in the day you can see the stars of tomorrow from the Centre of Excellence as they demonstrate their skills.

An absolute must for families and fans with fairground rides, stalls and entertainment outside the Stadium!

this year’s Firework Extravaganza at Brantingham Park, the home

of the Ionians’ Rugby Club.

Gates open at 6pm and as well as the amazing firework display

there will be our very own sports presenter James Clark along with some of Hull FC’s first team players AND the ever friendly Airlie Bird!! We'll also be teaming up with our charity - the KCFM Smile Foundation for something a little bit special....

So come down to see us, meet James, the Airlie Bird and the players

AND see the best firework display around!!

Hull Comedy Festival 2009

Hull's hilarious and hugely successful Comedy Festival is back and it's now in it's third year, bringing laughs and smiles to Hull and East Yorkshire!

The largest ticketed festival in Hull, it runs from 24th October to 7th November and is jam packed full of events - go to www.hullcomedy.co.uk for all the info and details of how to book tickets.

EAST YORKSHIRE BUSINESS EXPO 2009

We're rocking into Hornsea on the weekend of 18th and 19th July - are you?! You need to be.... it's going to be fab!

This year's carnival theme is Children's Stories and there will be lots of evidence of this in the parade which kicks off the carnival on the Saturday. A real must see for all the family and look out for us - we'll be giving away freebies!

The KCFM Smile Foundation has teamed up with Barratt and David Wilson Homes in Hull & East Yorkshire to support our 2009 charities Downright Special and House of Light From Monday 6th to Sunday 12th of July the teams at Barratt and David Wilson Homes will be doing the weird and wonderful to help raise funds for the KCFM Smile Foundation. Our very own Mark Somers and James Clark will be joining them at the Village Hotel on the 6th July to kick start the fundraising efforts testing the teams cooking skills by preparing and serving a meal for 80 guests. Hessle Feast is back!! And it's going to be bigger and better than ever before!

We're teaming up with the good folk of Hessle to help put on an event that the town can be proud of and there's so much going on.....

There will be two stages; one in the main square which will host Hessle's Got Talent and a fashion show by local boutiques Crave and Serenity and one on the Weir which will host a range of other performances.

There will also be all sorts going on throughout Hessle so come along and see us and enjoy a great day out!

We will be teaming up with the GRIN team of Greatfield Estate in Hull to take part in this event again - we enjoyed it so much last year that we're coming back for more!!

There'll be so much going on that we don't think we can fit it all in here..... deep breath, here goes...... bouncy boxing, gladiator joist, hook a duck, tombola, beat the goalie, bouncy castle, side stalls, lucky dip, BBQ, and more. Main event is GRIN Kids, Youths and Big Kids in a football match against Humberside Police but with a twist...... it's an inflatable human sized table football pitch!! How cool is that!

So if you fancy a fun day out come down and see us (we'll be the ones playing music!), it's free entry and guarantees to be a great family event!

COTTINGHAM DAY 2009

KCFM 99.8 will once again be hosting the stage at Cottingham's annual event - Cottingham Day!

As with the last couple of years, we will have a presenter on the stage and people on the streets handing out goodies, taking pics and generally having a good time....

As well as us, there'll be music from local band The Mono's, the Westfield School Choir, a Bonny Baby competition, the British Military fitness team, Irish music duo Colleens Fancy, local X Factor contestant Georgia and the ever amazing magician Mark Shortland. It'll be another great day (whether it rains or not!) so come along and see us and join in the fun.

Cottingham Day itself finishes around 5pm but it will be followed by a Cycle Race which will see some of the Great Britain 2012 Olympic riders competing alongside local cyclists.

More top bosses from across Hull & East Yorkshire are being arrested today for the KCFM Smile Foundation

Andrew Barber Charity manager will be joined in HMP Hull by:

• Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE

• Chris Bowlas of BP

• Dawn Power of N Power

• Eric Shackleton of Gemtec

• Nick Thompson of Kingston Communications

After being arrested all the bosses will be transported to HMP Hull, with the life of a prisoner to follow including extensive search, prison tour, cell time and prison food.

Each boss will then have to raise bail to be released

All funds raised will support the KCFM Smile Foundation and its chosen charity partners Downright Special and House of Light

KCFM 99.8 has teamed up with the Railway & Trinity Area Residents Association to take part in their first event - the Car Park Carnival!! it will be held on the George Street Car Park in Beverley from 11am to 3pm and there will be all kinds going on!

The Scrap Store will be there, Beverley Neighbourhood Police & the Fire and Rescue Service with their vehicles, numerous stalls including Beverley in Bloom, Beverley Fair Trade & the Cherry Tree Community Association. And of course we will be there playing out your favourite tunes, giving away prizes and generally getting stuck into the fun so pop down and see us!

LORD MAYOR'S GALA 2009

This Saturday sees the Lord Mayor’s Gala returning to Hull’s East Park. All the fun starts at 12 noon and entry to the Gala is, as usual, completely free!

Daniel was a local lad made good under Terry Neill's progressive regime at Boothferry Park in the early 70s, and remained a quality player as City's fortunes declined through the decade.

An England under 21 international, Daniel was a prize asset after the relegation of 1978 and joined Wolves, where he became a First Division regular and won the 1980 League Cup.

He is now manager of Winterton Rangers and joins Matthew Rudd to talk about those awkward days at City in the 1970s and life in the local non-league pyramid.

Jenkinson was a flying left winger who rose through the ranks at Boothferry Park and became a crucial and exciting part of City's side in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He left City in a big money move to Coventry, and later spent a large part of his career in the Scottish leagues.

Jenkinson is probably as well remembered for being the first Hull City player to wear the Tigers kit at Wembley when he reached the final of the Rumbelows Sprint Challenge as he is for his runs and crosses!

Despite the Challenge Cup run which ended in Wembley defeat for FC, it was a demoralising and frustrating season with an 11th place finish and promises from coach Richard Agar that much was going to change.

Hull Stingrays begin their Elite League campaign this weekend with a Saturday evening face-off against Manchester Phoenix at the Hull Arena, hoping to have a much improved season compared to last year.

Booth was never full-time manager of Hull City but was assistant to three different bosses, taking over as caretaker after each lost their jobs.

He began as a tough tackling full back under Mike Smith at the start of the 1980, joining the coaching staff when Brian Horton became manager four years later.

Booth is the latest of our ex-managers to talk to Matthew Rudd about their time at the helm of the club. So far nine men who have occupied the hotseat have told their story to KCFM, from Terry Neill in the early 1970s through to Peter Taylor earlier this decade.

Major was the centre who was thrown into first team action as a 17 year old in 1959, and played in the memorable Challenge Cup campaigns in 1962, 1963 and 1964, when the Robins lost two semi finals before reaching the final in the third.

The event kicks off with a parade at 11am from The Clinic in King Street and, amongst other things, there’ll be a bonny baby competition, stalls, face painting, a hog roast, classic cars, the fire brigade, local band The Monos and the KCFM 99.8 & PHP Ltd stage, hosted by our presenters Rob Langley and Rosie Madison.

The stage activity starts at 12 noon and we have 4 hours of action packed fun, entertainment and prizes to give away so come down and see us!

Grandad’s Park will play host to a variety of displays, shows and competitions and one lucky winner will get the chance to turn on this year’s Christmas Lights in Cottingham – it doesn’t get any better than that!

The band started late December 2007 and all three members currently attend St James Centre of Music in Hull, practicing every Wednesday. Our sound is a happy, bouncy music that makes you want to dance.

There's the 6ft 8 powerhouse that is Mr David 'Big Dave' Sugden - The Guitarist (widdle diddle merchant) of the band. Dave writes the jingly music and also throws in a few whistles and backing vocals. Then there's the so smiley Mark 'Bear/smiler' Maw - The one that lays down the fat beats on the drums. And Last but not least, the wonderful Toni 'Tulip' Lill on bass and vocals.

Appleton's ratio of victories during his spell in charge between 1982 and 1984 is better than any other gaffer's. In his first year he took the club to promotion from the bottom tier, then nearly repeated the feat the following season, missing out by just one solitary goal.

He then took the manager's job at Swansea, later returning for a brief and unsuccessful second spell at Boothferry Park in 1989.

Now in retirement, Appleton joins Matthew Rudd to look back on his eventful two terms in charge at Boothferry Park, in the latest of KCFM's interviews with the managers who shaped the club.

KCFM 99.8 AT THE DOVE HOUSE SUMMER FAIR!

The fair will take place within the hospice grounds on Sunday 27th July from 11am-4pm. The day will feature fun rides and games, stalls, live entertainment from the stage area, BBQ, beer tent and more.

Our very own Steve Jordan will be down there between 12 and 3pm hosting the fun and festivities so pop along and see him!!

There will be something for all the family and all proceeds from the day will go tot the hospice to help them care for adults in Hull and East Riding who have a life limiting illness.

The hospice is situated on Chamberlain Road in Hull and there will be parking available in the sports club grounds next to the hospice building. Entry is a donation of £1 adults, children under 12 can enter for free.

At 2pm a cote of doves will be released from the stage to represent all those loved and lost or those currently facing illness. Anyone can sponsor a dove regardless of their connection to the hospice.

CROWN JULES MEETS PITIFUL REIGN!

Pitiful Reign

Pitiful Reign started out in mid/late 2003 under the name of Metalegion, originally as a three piece, made up of three friends from school. After the inclusion of Matt Walker on bass, Tom Britton joined the band on lead guitar, leaving Josh to concentrate on rhythm guitar and his role as vocalist.

The following two years saw the band honing their talents, both live on stage and in the studio, releasing 24 Litre Killer (2005) and Toxic Choke (2006) This was also the year that Pitiful Reign played their most prestigious live show to date, at Bloodstock Open Air, alongside Edguy, Metal Church and Stratavarious; as well as being voted 3rd best UK unsigned band in Terrorizer magazine.

Early 2007 saw Pitiful Reign part ways with Tom Britton, and reform the line up, with the inclusion of Alan Pashby and Nev Britton on guitars, bringing to the band a fresh burst of energy and new ideas.

The new established line-up quickly made its mark with the recording of the explosive new 4-track CD "D.I.V.E" which was voted Demo of the Month in Metal Hammer magazine. The release coincided with the announcement that the band had been signed to Italian metal label Punishment 18.

Writing is now completed for the album, entitled “Visual Violence” which is expected to be released in Early 2008; with production duties being taken up by Steve DiGiorgio ( Sadus, ex-Death, ex-Testament, ex-Iced Earth) and Juan Urteaga (Vile, who produced Exodus, Testament and Sadus amongst many others) and with artwork by Ed Repka (Megadeth, Municipal Waste).

The release of “Visual Violence” will see Pitiful Reign poised to bring their beer-fuelled thrash mayhem to the rest of the world!

Slewd are from Sheffield, featuring Craig Stancer, Jeff Goldthorpe and Daniel Walton. The band were originally founded initially in 1995 but separated later that year and reformed again in 2007.

Slewd’s Material includes the new demo Stockholm Syndrome, and we are now playing live around the UK and recording our latest material.

Craig Stancer plays drums and all percussion, Jeff Goldthorpe plays all guitars and Daniel Walton sings and plays bass.

Our influences are wide ranging but include LCD Soundsystem, Jesus and Mary Chain and Stone Roses.

STEVE JORDAN AT THE CIVIC RECEPTION!

It was the biggest party that the city of Hull had ever seen! Over 50,000 people packed in to Queen Victoria Square to see the Tigers' home coming.

And KCFM 99.8's Steve Jordan opened up the celebrations as HullCity's triumphant players toured the city in an open top bus this Bank Holiday Monday.

The Tigers made history by winning 0-1 at Wembley thanks to Dean Windass' stunning first half volley that clinched promotion to the Premier League.

Pictured above is Steve at the post celebration party held at the City Hall with HullCity's play-off winning trophy.

SQUEALER ON THE KCFM 99.8 ROCK SHOW!

Squealer began as a band in the summer of 2007 heralding from the break up of the band Knuckle Deep, which had gone stale. The four remaining members kept on with the band, Marv, Johno, Dave, and Jamie, until Shane joined as the bands new drummer - and what a drummer!

We kept more or less the same set list as before, but we are now able to attempt a few more outlandish tracks these days. Jamie and Shane have been in bands together for many years including the original band ‘Little My’ and Jamie's thrash metal days.

Dave and Marv were in a band called Wet Thud, back in 2003, with Jamie and Shane, playing rock and indie before it all fell apart. Jamie and Shane went on to form Hustler, while Marv, Johno and Dave went on to form Knuckle Deep.

Johno had been on the band scene for years - all with frighteningly silly names - pick of the bunch being the greatly named, ‘Sour Mash’!

So there you have it! A brief history of the band, you've heard the story, now come and experience the phenomenon that is....SQUEALER!

U2OPIA AND CROWN JULES ON THE KCFM ROCK SHOW

For nearly a year we trawled through endless auditions night after night contacting musicians from one end of the country to another. The web sites along with the help of the local media, where a great help producing auditions, some great and some not so great, some funny and some absolutely hilarious. I must admit at times I really felt like giving up but I knew, I could do this, it was just going to take time.

I must admit the way things came together in the end was a bit odd to say the least.

We had no one lined up and then all of a sudden, almost over night, we had the band.

The First to come on board was Alan Kyle (keys); Alan was contacted via a web site called musicians in your city. We Chatted for a while and very quickly established a common ground, one that was to become the foundations of the band. This band was to be ego free, with no delusions of grandeur or any over zealous ambition, with one target, to be the best sounding pub band in Yorkshire.

The next member to come on board was Rob (drums), it's probably worth pointing out that even at this point, we still hadn't met Alan and all communication was done via the telephone. Rob had seen the advert in the hull daily mail, well I think it was (long time U2 Fan) Lucy his wife, who saw the advert and swiftly instructed rob to contact us.

Rob gave us a cd to listen to so we could begin to understand his playing ability.

Well the moment Steve (bass) heard the songs I think his words were "Now I know I could play with him" He was very quickly brought on board so not too miss out on him being available. Steve being Steve, is a firm believer that if the bass and drums are solid and can not only play together, but groove at the same time, this will be so evident in the overall sound of the band.

The last person to join the band was the find of the year. We knew we needed the perfect guitarist as the U2 sound is so synonymous with the sound created by the Edge. And didn't we do well, haha. The last person to join was Steve Dean (lead G)

What a revelation, he turned up at my house on a Thursday night one hour early whilst we where auditioning another guitarist, and in true Steve style he said," no probs ill just drive round for a bit" what a star.

JOKERZ ON THE KCFM 99.8 ROCK SHOW!

Jokerz formed in August 2006 and the three lads have already gained a large following - plus a reputation of being a great live act - taking nationwide venues by storm and embarking on an endless journey.

Deciding to go in a different musical direction, then setting the trend of emerging indie bands, the guys have a sound being described as ’polished walls of energy’ and a mix between ’the fast pulse of Green day and songwriting skills of a youthful Springsteen’.

With a 4 track EP already under their belts and a pool of over 100 songs already written, the recording of their debut album in September 2007 culminated with an album launch, headlining Josephs Well in Leeds.

Influences ranging from the Living End to Bruce Springsteen to Parliament Funkadelic, their musical style stands out from every other band on the British music scene.

Brian Little is the only previous manager to have taken the Tigers into a play-off campaign, back in 2001 during the infamous season in the bottom division when the players went unpaid and the ground was padlocked.

He talked to Matthew Rudd about that season, how he motivated a team struggling to get by into a stunning finish to the campaign, and the ultimate heartbreak of semi-final defeat to Leyton Orient.

JAMES RULE on SportsCall

James will be co-hosting with Matthew Rudd every other week through the summer (his Hull KR compatriot Paul Lakin will do the alternate weeks) and talking to the leading personalities at Hull FC, including the first team squad.

The Tigers are after a Premier League place, and to get it they have to beat Watford over two legs, starting this Sunday lunchtime at Vicarage Road.

City lost there 1-0 back in October but unfurled a new talent called Fraizer Campbell that day, who afterwards went on to dominate the Tigers' season.

The second leg at the KC Stadium - where City thumped Watford 3-0 in March - is on Wednesday night. The winners on aggregate will go to Wembley to face either Crystal Palace or Bristol City for a place in the Premier League.

XIII GUEST ON CROWN JULES' ROCK SHOW

XIII (pronounced thirteen) are a heavy/thrash metal band hailing from our very own great city of Hull.

The band’s influences include music from the 80s - including Metallica and Megadeth - but also include the likes of Thin Lizzy and Johnny Cash.

Machine Head, Kreator, Trivium and Annihilator are more recent names helping to shape XIII’s sound.

In recent months, a re-shuffle of XIII's band members was needed, as the original guitarist quit the band due to musical differences.

The search was on to find a replacement and after a handful of people applied, Mark Storr was finally chosen. Mark brings amazing guitar skills, similar musical influences and personality, to the rest of the band.

XIII hope you will all join them in giving Mark a huge XIII welcome and show your support for what is now - with the help of Mark and his talents - a brute force to be reckoned with.

The band are due to play at ‘Sharkeys’ on the 30th April, Ringside on the 14th May - and again on the 4 June (the Ringside dates in the Battle of the Bands). All these dates are in Hull.

At 6.27pm precisely, Al Duprés had special guests Steve Winterburn and Peter 'Flash' Flanagan's daughter Elaine in conversation with KCFM 99.8's David Doyle Davidson on his show.

Steve came in to discuss the propsed statue of 'Flash' - a Hull Kingston Rovers playing legend - that he is working on.

Peter, affectionately nicknamed 'Flash' from his Rovers days was signed by David Doyle Davidson for Hull FC while he was coach, after a distinguished career with the Robins.

Nova-Caine visited our very own Crown Jules on the KCFM 99.8 Rock Show and they come as a four piece grunge rock band from Hull.

Nova Caine’s musical influences are Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Beatles, The Pixies, Black Sabbath, Cream, Primus, Led Zepplin, Refused, Jimi Hendrix, Faith No More, Stone temple pilots, Soundgarden, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Mudhoney, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Rush.

You can catch Nova Caine playing ‘The Adelphi’ on the 29th April and ‘The Ringside’ on the 8th and 14th May. A final local date in the Hull area will be at The Lamp on the 9th June.

Abbott, now assistant manager at Carlisle United, was an important and experienced figure at Boothferry Park in Terry Dolan's era of the early 1990s as the club went through various hardships.

His release in 1996 came as a big shock to both himself and the Hull City fans.

AfterGlow are a five piece ‘Alternative Rock’ outfit from Hull. In 2007 AfterGlow released their debut EP ‘A night in the life of’ on iTunes and CD to critical acclaim.

The launch of ‘A night in the life of’ saw them gain nationwide air play and a national tour, as well as a sold out EP launch party at the Hull Adelphi!

The band have been together just two years and in that time have played gigs non stop across Britain including support slots for the likes of Dogs and The Hedrons, as well as headlining dates for HMV and Kerrang!

Having taken in venues like London Waterrats, Manchester Night and Day, Leeds Uni and The Hull City Hall last year, AfterGlow are currently touring up and down the country with several festival dates lined up for the summer.

Haley Bailey is out and about with her camera each Sunday, reporting into Rob Langley's show on a selected kids' match and handing out the Stoneacre man of the match award!

This weekend it was Barham Boys ‘A’ (yellow and blue) taking on Withernsea under 9s, (green, yellow and black) with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Scoring for Barham was Dylan Keogh and Jack Wreathall.

This weekend it was Batemans versus Hedon Rangers, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Joseph Thompson and Kieley Cockson scored the goals for the home side that kept Batemans (in green and white hoops) top of the league.

CARDIFF CITY v HULL CITY

Hull City and Cardiff City briefly became pally last season, when City's win at Ninian Park in the penultimate match of the season kept the Tigers up and sent Leeds, a mutual enemy, down from the Championship.

There'll be no love lost this time, however, as the two line up for a hugely important match as they look towards achieving their ambitions for a bigger stage.

It was a major coup for KCFM, with Atkinson becoming one of the biggest names in punditry during a successful and colourful managerial career.

Mark Coates' all-round display, as well as his two goals, was rewarded with the man of the match award.

Chris spent nine years in the City first team after making his debut at the age of 18 and became one of the more unheralded but still vital cogs in the team managed by Cliff Britton and showcased by the Chillo and Waggy partnership.

He won a Third Division title medal in 1966 and scored against Chelsea in a famous FA Cup quarter final replay the same season. In total he made more than 300 appearances prior to Terry Neill's decision to sell him to Blackpool in 1971.

COLIN HUTTON on SportsCall

Hutton has just completed a 50 year association with the Robins having begun as a coach and now the proud club president.

He had many stories to tell, and joined Matthew on SportsCall to chat about his long love of Hull Kingston Rovers, whom he joined as coach in 1957, subsequently going on to become a general manager, director, chairman and president.

He also played across the city for Hull FC between 1951 and 1957, kicking a famous penalty to clinch the 1956 Championship!

Skipper played in two spells for City from 1979 to 1988 and formed some tough central defensive partnerships during his years at Boothferry Park.

GARRY SCHOFIELD on SportsCall

Schofield was the teenage star who rose quickly through the ranks at the Boulevard in the early 1980s and was in the Great Britain side by the age of 18.

JUSTIN WHITTLE on SportsCall

Whittle was the hugely influential captain and centre back recruited by Warren Joyce midway through what turned out to be City's Great Escape season, completing a formidable, none-shall-pass defence which helped the Tigers stay in the League.

He became a modern-day City hero as a result, but later fell out of favour upon Peter Taylor's arrival at the KC and has since continued to ply his trade with Grimsby Town.

He has already appeared numerous times on KCFM as a summariser on Hull City Live! and has added to his association with KCFM by joining Matthew Rudd in the studio to look back on his eventful years at Boothferry Park and the KC.

PHIL BROWN on SportsCall

Brown took over from Phil Parkinson in December 2006 and, although it got a bit close for comfort, fulfilled his task of keeping City in the Championship and was rewarded with a mandate for the job by new chairman Paul Duffen in the summer.

Brown returned to the KCFM studio to look back on those 12 months and discuss the big occasions, his big decisions and where City go from here.

WAYNE JACOBS on SportsCall

Jacobs had five seasons at Boothferry Park in the late 80s and early 90s, playing in the last few weeks of Brian Horton's spell in charge prior to becoming City's most admired and consistent performer in a turbulent era.

He was 20 years old when he played against Liverpool in the 1989 FA Cup fifth round and picked up a number of Player of the Season awards before a knee injury controversially and suddenly ended his career with the Tigers.

Wayne was recently voted City's finest left back of the modern era by veteran Tigers fans on KCFM's Fans Panel.

RICHARD SKINNER joins KCFM!

Richard presented the UK Top 40 on Radio 1 in the mid-1980s and was chosen to do the voiceover at Wembley in 1985 to launch Live Aid, prior to anchoring much of the TV and radio coverage afterwards.

He later helped launch Virgin Radio and has worked for some of radio's biggest stations since.

Richard is co-presenting our UK Top 20 Rewind with Shaun Tilley on Sunday - each will present a classic Top 20 countdown from a year gone by.

Windass, who is currently promoting his autobiography, was the guest of Paul Duffen as the Hull City chairman continues to co-host SportsCall each Thursday with Matthew Rudd.

Windass is the modern-day legend of City, having played for five eventful and productive seasons at Boothferry Park during more troublesome times for the club, before returning in a blaze of glory at the age of 38 to score the goals which saved the Tigers from relegation.

Houghton was an outstanding member of the City side of the late 60s and early 70s which came closer than any other Tigers team to achieving top-flight football.

He played as a foil to Chilton and Wagstaff in that famous front five under Cliff Britton and Terry Neill, later going on to raise some outstanding young players such as Garreth Roberts and Brian Marwood as youth team coach, prior to a spell as club manager.

HULL CITY'S BEST XI OF THE LAST 40 YEARS!

In the absence of a game to preview due to international fixtures, our Fans Panel took the opportunity to put together the best XI to have represented Hull City in the last 40 years (roughly the time each have watched the club).

As ever, the guys in the studio represented three of the main online presences of City supporters - Gary Newton (Amber Nectar); Ian Farrow (City Independent) and Mark Gretton (Tiger Chat) all gathered in the studio with Matthew Rudd to chew the fat over their best City XI.

Gretton tried to break the rules immediately by recommending two players who pre-dated any of the panel's own birth, never mind first game as a supporter, but eventually an XI was agreed. It was:-

BRIAN MARWOOD on SportsCall

Marwood was an outstanding winger for the Tigers in the early 1980s, playing a significant role in the promotion season of 1983 and coming so close to another promotion under Colin Appleton a year later.

Marwood went on to a glittering career with Sheffield Wednesday and especially Arsenal, with whom he won a League title medal and gained an England cap.

Now a respected television summariser, Marwood talked to Matthew Rudd about his time at Boothferry Park - from his debut as a teenage winger, through the bankruptcy and promotion seasons, to the fateful last game of his Tigers career when City missed out on another promotion by one single goal!

A "cook off " contest was held at St Stephens Shopping Centre, and we sent along our most domesticated "new men" - Groovy-licious host and supercool dude of the airwaves Darren "the name you can trust ... to give you food poisoning" Goulbourne; and that loud bloke who's on at the weekend, Pete "late-night lock-in ... as you throw up in the khazi" Mills to represent KCFM.

DG won on the grounds that as bad as his cooking was, it wasn't as bad as Millsy's...

Former Hull FC prop Keith Tindall joined us on SportsCall this Wednesday evening.

With the Super League season over, we're keeping rugby league in your thoughts by inviting some of FC and KR's biggest heroes of the past into the studio to reminisce.

Tindall told us of his early days as a Hull amateur, his debut for Hull at Leigh in 1973, plus his catalogue of remarkable injuries and illnesses which would have floored lesser players.

He also reminisced about the Challenge Cup heartbreak of 1980 and the numerous other local derbies in which he played.

CARL BOYESON on SportsCall!

Richard is from East Yorkshire and referees at Conference level, but as an assistant referee he is at the very top of his profession, having just achieved FIFA accreditation which will allow him to run the line at Champions League games and international fixtures and tournaments.

PUNK & NEW WAVE DAY!

On Sunday November 18th, KCFM 99.8 filled the airwaves with music from the bands that rocked the establishment and shook the charts in the late 1970s!

Our Punk & New Wave Day commemorated 30 years since the punks arrived on the scene and in the charts.

We had great sounds from the likes of the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Stranglers, Boomtown Rats, the Buzzcocks, the Skids and so many more!

Plus we had mini-documentaries on American punks Iggy Pop, New York Dolls and the Ramones, and gave loads of stuff, including CDs, DVDs and books.

On KCFM's Rock Show, Crown Jules had a Punk special, featuring Jonathan Leafe telling the story of punk in the Hull and East Yorkshire area, plus Paparazzi W playing live!

Paul Duffen, Hull City chairman, is now co-hosting SportsCall with Matthew Rudd each Thursday and his latest guest was the club's assistant manager Brian Horton, who returned to the Tigers to work under Phil Brown in the summer.

Horton was also manager of the club from 1984 to 1988 in his first job after his playing career wound down; he has since managed clubs to a total of more than 1,000 games.

Davidson played for the Tigers for a stunning 15 years, from 1952 to 1967, eventually winning a Third Division title medal in 1966 just before his retirement.

Nobody has come close to matching his total of games for City, and Davidson had plenty of stories to tell about his many years at Boothferry Park.

Now 75, he agreed to a rare interview with Matthew Rudd, and the two are pictured in the KCFM studio.

Steve Hubbard, the right winger who scored nine of Rovers' ten points in their 10-5 win over Hull FC in the famous 1980 Challenge Cup final, was Tuesday's special guest on SportsCall.

He talked about his early days in rugby union, his elevation to the Rovers first team and, of course, that amazing day for all KR fans in 1980 when he scored Rovers' only try in their Wembley win over the old enemy.

Terry was the 28 year old player-manager who shook up the club in 1971 and led the Tigers to the highest ever finish in the league.

Withernsea-born Hawley famously played for the Tigers as an amateur in the 1970s prior to stints with Leeds United and Arsenal.

He then returned to City on loan and was a feared and much-respected striker throughout his career.

John talked candidly about the advantages and disadvantages of being an amateur in a professional league, as well as playing in America one summer and the relegation season of 1977/8, which led to his sale.

NEWSBEAVER CLAIRE JOINS THE FIRE BRIGADE

All this week on KCFM's NewsWire (weekdays at 6pm - between Al and SportsCall) our news team have been shadowing the emergency services in Hull & East Yorkshire and, to cap off an eventful week, lucky old Claire spent a day with a bunch of firemen!

Claire travelled with the watch throughout the day, attending fires and other incidents and seeing how the firefighters cope with the pressure and responsibility of the job.

Earlier this week, Joel Goldman went out with the Yorkshire Ambulance service in Hull and discovered that much of their time is spent on personal care as well as medical care. Wesley Mallin went out with the Fast Response Unit which combines both police activity and medical services; we also spoke at length to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who've just purchased a second helicopter to be based in Sheffield.

And we took a look at the various lifeboat and coastguard services in Hull and Spurn Point.

Thanks to our friends at Haunting Breaks, the specialists in paranormal experiences, we gave away a terrific Haunted Castle weekend for Hallowe'en on KCFM 99.8!

From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th October we asked a series of Hallowe'en questions which took you closer to our Haunted Castle - answer the most and you went through to the Friday final, answer fewer and you got a consolation pumpkin...

The five finalists on Friday faced a sudden death question - the person who got nearest to the correct answer won the weekend at the Milton Hill House, which includes bed and breakfast, meals, seances, crystal protection, dowsing and other Hallowe'en related stuff.

Paul Fletcher, who spent a colossal 19 years at Craven Park, became our latest rugby league legend to join us on SportsCall.

Through the winter months we intend to keep local rugby league alive on KCFM by inviting heroes of our two clubs on to SportsCall to reminisce about their careers.

Fletcher joined as a 16 year old and left aged 35, just short of becoming the Robins' record appearance maker. He was fearsome and tough in the scrum, playing as either a prop or in the second row.

Matthew Rudd asked him about loyalty, about longevity, about his chance to move across the city for megabucks and his unfortunate departure when within touching distance of Mike Smith's record.

On Thursday night he spoke to Matthew Rudd on KCFM about his career between Hull City's posts, which began just a fortnight after his 17th birthday.

Willo relived the rivalry between him and two Northern Ireland international goalkeepers, the heartache of relegation and the joy of the Great Escape, and his finest two hours - the League Cup win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park!

Thursday evening is Ex-Tigers Evening on SportsCall, and on September 6th Matthew Rudd was joined by former City captain Garreth Roberts.

Garreth, who has also appeared on KCFM as a summariser on Hull City Live, spoke at length about his 13 years in the Tigers first team, from breaking through as a teenager in the late 1970s, through the financial trials of the early 1980s and the promotions under Colin Appleton and Brian Horton, to his later spell as the figurehead of the team under Eddie Gray and Stan Ternent, including the famous FA Cup battle with Liverpool.

The people of Paull came together to put on a family fun day to raise much needed money for their local church.

The Main Street event had a Hog Roast, Sumo Wrestling, a Tug-o-War, Falconry Display as well as the Kingstown Scottish Pipe Band and lots more.

We were there joining in with the fun and chucking the odd welly as Paull came together to raise lots of cash for St. Andrew's.

Malcolm Lord, who spent a dozen seasons at Boothferry Park in the 60s and 70s, was our latest guest on Ex-Tigers Evening on SportsCall.

Malcolm spanned an era which began with record appearance maker Andy Davidson still in the team and ended with a fledgling Garreth Roberts making his mark - that's a period of longevity few City players can match.

Matthew Rudd asked the questions as Malcolm recalled breaking into the side in 1967, life alongside Chillo and Waggy, the FA Cup run of 1971, working under Terry Neill and John Kaye, and the club's relegation in 1978 which largely heralded his departure.

A number of businesses from Hull and East Yorkshire attended and were given a guided tour while enjoying wine and canapés with KCFM 99.8 staff, presenters and our Chairman, Ian Blakey.

BURSTWICK UNITED

Community spirit has been strengthened in the Holderness village following the devastating floods which wreaked havoc and caused destruction to more than 100 homes. Many residents have helped and supported one another during this stressful and emotional time, regardless of whether they were flooded or not.

As a result, the villagers have formed a committee - Burstwick United - and held an August Bank Holiday Bonanza event to raise funds to help the village’s flood victims get their lives back on track.

There was a Fun Day on Burstwick Playing Field during the day (11am – 6pm) and then in the evening (6pm – 9pm) a barbecue at the village pub, the Hare and Hounds, followed by an auction.

KCFM 99.8 popped down there to check out the action and also donated prizes to be auctioned: a children’s 2007/8 Hull City kit, signed by England football manager Steve McClaren, plus a tour of our new shiny radio station, a chance to meet the presenters AND sit in on Al Dupres’ Afternoon Show!

EASINGTON FUN DAY

Hosted by the Easington Sport Association, the fun started with a car boot sale at midday, while the events and contests on the playing field began at 2.

Other events included a bogie race (that's like a home-made go-kart race, kids!) with the proceeds from entry going to Dove House Hospice.

It all happened on Sunday, August 26th.

HUMBER FEST 2007

The south bank of the Humber will be treated to a huge variety of music this coming Bank Holiday weekend with Humber Fest 2007.

Building on the success of last year's Bridge Bash, Humber Fest takes place in the glorious shadow of the Humber Bridge in Barton. The weekend is packed out with the best eighties bands, a Community Fun Day and TV's Jane McDonald.

On Friday 24th August, Deacon Blue play - supported by the Commitments, Journey South and The Beautiful Couch. Saturday night sees Jane McDonald with her support; on Sunday it's the Community Fun Day (12 noon - 5.30pm) and the whole event culminates on Bank Holiday Monday with a concert featuring Tony Hadley, ABC, Go West and Badness!

ALDERMAN KNEESHAW COMMUNITY OPEN DAY

On Saturday September 1st, you are invited to come and enjoy an Open Day at Alderman Kneeshaw Park on Bilton Grange.

The park has been underused and neglected of late, but thanks to the concerted effort of a restoration committee and support from lots of local organisations and dignitaries, the park is being refurbished with new play equipment and leisure facilities, including:-

Five a side football pitch
Water play areas
Picnic benches
Playground rides
Running track
Benches and other rest facilities

It's part of a long-term plan to promote more use of outdoor recreation facilities as part of a healthy lifestyle.

KCFM 99.8 is one of a number of local organisations proud to be supporting the event, which will be opened by John Prescott, Hull East MP and ex-deputy PM, and the Lord Mayor of Hull.

Another organisation supporting the event is Dove House Hospice, who welcome your generous donations. You can call them on 01482 784343.

Gates open at 8am for parking, with the official opening at 11, after which no more vehicles will be allowed in. Access is via Valiant Drive.

Saturday the 4th August we were out and about at Scully Fayre. Our Promotional Team mingled with the crowds, tried our hand in the craft workshops and watched the balloon race, among many other things!! The Fayre was opened by Councillor Mark Collinson at 10am and finisehd around 4pm. The Fayre was part of the 'Your Heritage, Your Future' project and was organised by 'Developing Our Communities' to celebrate the regeneration of the Sculcoates area and its rich heritage. Launch Day - 6am Wednesday 1st August 2007

At 6am this morning KCFM 99.8 stormed the airwaves of Hull and East Yorkshire with a raucous countdown, an interview between our Programme Controller Tim Jibson and Chairman Ian Blakey, and then our first song - The Beatles 'Twist and Shout'!

All the staff, Board Members, family and friends came in at 5.30am to savour Steve Jordan's first ever words spoken on KCFM 99.8, enjoy a champagne breakfast and basically experience the most exciting thing to happen in radio in this area for a long time!!

As well as a number of clients, well wishers and radio fans, KCFM also had visits from Steve McClaren (England Football Manager) who officially opened the radio station and Jon Culshaw (Impressionist and Comedian) who came to meet the staff, presenters and record some special guest spots.

The reception, support and interest we have received on our first day on air has been amazing. It has been a fantastic experience so far and we look forward to the coming weeks, months and years of broadcasting feel good radio to the people of Hull and East Yorkshire.

Cottingham Day

Cottingham Day took place on a sunny but showery Saturday. In its third year, Cottingham Day is organized by the Town Clerk and her team to bring the Cottingham community together and put the town itself ‘on the map’!! It was touch and go whether it took place at all because of the fall-out from the horrendous flash floods but everyone perservered and put on a great day that was attended by hundreds of people!!

The Day started with the traditional colourful parade which marched its way into the Square and kicked off the rest of the entertainment. The Green was full of families enjoying all sorts of rides and stalls, while Cottingham Square hosted the Bonny Baby competition, fairground rides and the one and only KCFM 99.8 stage!!!! With an assortment of acts, hosted by our very own Breakfast Show presenter Steve Jordan, the afternoon’s climax was a good old boogie to an Abba tribute band ‘Chickitita’!! The other main streets of Cottingham provided their own entertainment with an array of vintage cars, food stalls and lots more!

Wymersley Park Fun Day

KCFM 99.8 went down to the Wymersley Park Fun Day which was being held to promote the area and bring the local community together following the devastating floods. The Day, organized by Wymersley Park Action Group who are working hard to redevelop the park to get a skate park, was attended by hundreds of families and was a roaring success!!!

We had our Promotional Team there mingling with the crowds, snapping the fun and having the time of our lives eating hot dogs, riding the miniature steam train and checking out the sandcastle competition! Children (and parents!!!) of all ages had a great time on the Army climbing wall, the fairground rides and the tombola – there really was something there for everyone!
