You may have heard Matt Hutchinson at various times of the day on KCFM. He’s been on the radio station for the last two years, but has now just taken over the Breakfast Show. As you can imagine, that means he has to get up seriously early, or as he puts it "when it’s still the middle of the night.” Yes, there is than more than one four o’clock in a day!

Matt says, "It’s literally caffeine that gets me through! When my alarm clock goes off in the morning, the first thing I do is stick the kettle on.” If you ask Matt if he’s always been a morning person, the response you’ll get is – "I am now!” It does mean he gets most of his afternoons free. "That’s not much use to me if I can’t keep my eyes open though!” says Matt.

At least when Matt does get into work, he’s got some great music to play. "The 80’s is my thing.” Matt confessed. KCFM isn’t just about the 80’s though, Matt says, "We play a great mix of songs, right through to being first with the very latest releases. I might be biased, but it’s a cracking listen.”

The job does mean Matt’s out and about regularly. KCFM broadcasts to the whole of East Yorkshire, and you’ll often see them at events like the Driffield Show, Cottingham Day, Beverley Races and Hull Fair. "I do like getting out across the county, especially if it involves an afternoon at the coast” says Matt. The team have broadcast from some great places in East Yorkshire recently. They spent two weeks this year doing their shows from East Park in Hull, North Beach in Bridlington and Market Place in Howden. Matt told us, "We’ll take any opportunity to get out and meet our listeners, there doesn’t have to be an excuse.  If you’re sticking the kettle on – I’m there!”
