Push to give Market Weighton Canal and River Foulness a more prominent role

A feasibility study is underway to look at how the waterways can be used more by the community.

It's hoped the Market Weighton Canal and the River Foulness can play a more prominent role in the community.

Newport Parish Council is considering how they can be used more for recreation, including cycling or canoeing.

Colin Blundel is running the feasibility study. He believes it couldn't accommodate leisure craft saying, "The canal is mainly a drainage feature at the moment, so we shall be talking with the Drainage Board about the implications of leisure craft on the waterways.

However, their initial feeling is that it wouldn't be suitable for boats."
