Hull Prison will come to a stand still today as members of the Prison Officers' Association decide whether to have a full shutdown.
The POA is calling on members to walk out, accusing the Government of failing to make prisons safe places to work.
Some prison officers are staging a protest outside jails, however a decision in Hull will be made at meeting early this afternoon:
Rob Nicholson is chair of the Hull Prison Officers' Association.
He says: "This afternoon's meeting will be purely and simple whether our 400 members want to join the other 30,000 in the country in supporting them against the health and safety issues there are at other jails.
"Although Hull may be ok at this moment in time, the wheels could come off, we would then be looking for support from our colleagues at other jails."
