A report from The Policy Exchange recommends a social housing sell-off should be used to make affordable homes and create construction jobs
Councils are being advised to sell off expensive social housing. The Policy Exchange think tank says the proceeds should be used to build more affordable homes and create jobs in the construction sector.
Hull City Councillor John Black, responsible for housing in the City, doesn't think it's workable outside the South-East of England.
He told KCFM "Hull has one of the largest housing stocks, valued at well over £350million. There's also the debt on the properties, so it's very debateable whether Northern (English) authorities would be able to raise much money through this initiative."
