East Yorkshire MP's call for changes for parental pay

Two MPs in Hull and Hessle have signed an open letter, calling for Shared Parental Pay to include self-employed parents.

MP Diana Johnson and MP Emma Hardy want self-employed men and women to have more flexibility to run their businesses and care for the their family.

There's currently no paternity or shared parental benefit for self-employed fathers or same-sex partners, and self-employed mums claiming maternity allowance have no legal protections.

Around 15 percent of the UK's workforce are self-employed - that's around 4.8 million people.
